To snad ani není možné že to vše sonda stihne, jinak dík, člověk bude neustále v obraze co se děje.
Je to jasné, ty rotace na animaci jsou okamžiky vysílání k Zemi, asi to ale bude " jen" telemetrie, žádné obrázky.
Sonda tedy bude během hektických 24 hodin několikrát vysílat k Zemi. [Upraveno 13.7.2015 David]

V hektických chvílích příletu sondy New Horizons k Plutu bychom si měli připomenout ještě jednu událost, vztahující se k tomuto dnu. Tohoto dne se moc chtěl dožít Tonda Vítek, mluvil o tom několikrát...
"Potřeboval bych se dožít 15. července 2015, kdy sonda New Horizons One proletí ve vzdálenosti 15 tisíc kilometrů od Pluta a pořídí jeho snímky i snímky čtyř jeho měsíců." (zdroj: Lidové noviny, 07/2011).

Tak už je to definitivně potvrzeno! Přepište učebnice… za Neptunem není většího (známého) tělesa než předčasně „pohřbené“ planety PLUTO!

Jeho průměr je větší, než všechny doposud „oficiálně“ předpokládané údaje, takže nyní má, dle měření sondy New Horizons, nezpochybnitelných 2 370 km.

Tomuto úplně nerozumím. Jestliže jsme museli kvůli upřesnění průměru čekat na New Horizons, jak si můžeme být jistí průměrem Eris?

To spíš patří novinářům, fyzici se snad řídí tímto, ne?
Pluto: (1,305 ± 0,007)×10^22 kg
Eris: (1,67 ± 0,02) × 10^22 kg

Jinak ještě nedávno mělo Pluto 2306 km...

Takže až poletí sonda k Eris, tak se nám minimálně o tu stovku km zvětší, indicie o tolik větší hmotnosti při údávaném téměř identickém složení, podle kterého "hádají" albedo je myslím dosti nadějná...
Takže s tím přepisováním učebnic pomalu.

Záleží na počtu, z kolika je to průměrované, z jednoho by to moc dobře nvycházelo, netušíte někdo z kolika měření to je?

(roli asi může hrát i různá poloha observatoří - tím se zvětší počet různých měření na jeden přechod)

Těžko říct. Mohli by si být jistí v případě, že by byl zákryt na Zemi pozorovaný od severu k jihu s tím, že hvězdárny v severních šířkách by naměřily nějaký údaj, který by se směrem k jihu zvětšoval, ale od nějaké rovnoběžky by znovu začal klesat. Pak by bylo zřejmé, že nejdelší doba zákrytu odpovídá poloze "střed na střed". Nevím ale, jak to tehdy bylo, je tudíž klidně možné, že Eris je větší, třeba i o dost), než se zákrytem změřilo. Čistě hypoteticky, pokud by střední hustota Pluta a Eridy byla stejná, pak by průměr Eridy byl 1,085x větší, neboli 2573 km. Samozřejmě, to je jen hraní s čísly, která vůbec nemusí platit.

V případě Eris se podařilo 6. listopadu 2010 pozorování hvězdy 17 mag v souhvězdí Velryby ze tří observatoří, dvě z nich byly vzdálené 740 km a to v Chile. Naměřená světelná křivka, sestávající z pouhých 7 snímků, tedy bude dost nepřesná a to se promítne i do tolerance nepřesnosti zjištěné tětivy. A to pak vede k úplně jinému zakřivení oblouku, v důsledku čehož se průměr Eridy může významně lišit vypočteného. Zajímalo by mě, jak autoři měření došli k té neuvěřitelně nízké chybě měření plus mínus 10 kilometrů. Jsem zvědavý, na co se ještě časem přijde. Jednoznačné rozluštění by přinesl jedině průzkum sondou, ale myslím, že se nepletu, že se do toho NASA nepohrne, i kdyby měla peníze. Co kdyby Eris byla opravdu větší, než milované americké Pluto? Musíme počítat také s tím, že ačkoliv je Eris 3x dál, doba letu bude delší než 3-násobek letu k Plutu, i když sondě přidáme větší rychlost. A v možnostech současné techniky ten přírůstek nebude zas nijak dramatický

New Horizons priniesol nové poznatky
merania sondy, ktorá v utorok dorazí k Plutu, naznačujú, že polomer Pluta je 1185 kilometrov, plus mínus desať kilometrov. Je to o 30-50 kilometrov viac, ako boli predošlé odhady.

Podľa vedca Alana Sterna to môže znamenať, že Pluto má menšiu hustotu, než sa doteraz predpokladalo. Zrejme má ľadové jadro.

Pluto by teda malo byť o niečo väčšie ako Eris
a má to zaujímavý dôsledok pre jeho atmosféru, bude "tenšia" než sme si mysleli
